A second policeman hurt in a gun attack in southern Turkey late on Monday has died of his injuries.
The governor of Adana province, Mustafa Buyuk, told journalists at Cukurova University Balcali Hospital on Tuesday that police officer Bircan Ilhanli had succumbed to his wounds.
Ilhanli’s colleague, police officer Suleyman Cakir, died on Monday night; the pair had been shot by two motorcycle-borne attackers.
Buyuk blamed the PKK for the killings.
“It is understood that the attack was made by the PKK. A wide-scale operation has been launched against the suspects. We hope that the attackers will be caught as soon as possible”, he added.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Bircan Ilhanli’s father, Izzet, said that his son had worked in Adana for six years out of his two-decade career as a police officer.
Izzet Ilhanli, who has another son working as a police sergeant in the western province of Bursa, said Bircan had kept working to pay for his daughter’s education.
