BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to London on Tuesday night for better eye treatment.
“Our leader (Khaleda) will go to London on Tuesday night for her eye treatment. She will also stay there for some days to pass time with her eldest son Tarique Rahman and other family members,” said BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan on Sunday night.
He was addressing a press briefing after a meeting of BNP senior leaders with the party chief at her Gulshan office.
Replying to a question whether the BNP chief will return home before Eid-ul-Azha, Nazrul Islam said, “I don’t think so as she is going to meet her eldest son for the first time after the death of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.”
He said they also requested her to celebrate the eid with her family members there.
Party sources said Koko’s wife and two daughters are also scheduled to go to London to celebrate Eid with other family members, including Khaleda.
The BNP leader said Khaleda held the meeting with the senior leaders staying now in Dhaka ahead of her London tour.
She directed them to complete the formation of all grass roots committees as soon as possible and gave them some directives in this regard, he said.
BNP chief also asked the party leaders to work sincerely with their best efforts to strengthen the organisational activities in her absence, Nazrul Islam said.
Khaleda has been celebrating eid festival alone in the country since 2008 as her two sons and their family members had been staying abroad.
However, Koko died in Malaysia on March 24 this year.
