Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Sahin stated that the advancement of Turkey has disturbed some power groups in the interview conducted by Journalist-Writer Yasar Yavuz. Sahin said: “Turkey, by making a difference among the developing countries and pulling the low income group to middle income and advancing to pull them to high income group, has severely disturbed the evil alliances. We have passed through important tests in the last 14 years. We have clearly understood that the real target of those people who used some trees as an excuse was Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the stability of this country. We have successfully passed those hard times with the high courage of our President. The people who have done that plan did not achieve their goals.”

-Who wants to destabilize Turkey and what do they want to do?

I have served in Ankara for 12 years. I want to answer this question by going back to 14 years ago. First of all, a strong leader came to power with the goal of a stable Turkey in its region: JDP. Turkey, by making a difference among the developing countries and pulling the low income group to middle income and advancing to pull them to high income group, has severely disturbed the evil alliances. 367 was experienced because of this. That is why the arguments and trials about shutting down the party were done. We have passed many tests in the last 14 years. We had the hardest test during the “Gezi” events. We have clearly understood that the real target of those people who used some trees as an excuse was Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the stability of this country. We have successfully passed those hard times with the high courage of our President. The people who have done that plan did not achieve their goals.”

Who is the target of these powers that want to destabilize Turkey, or what do they really want to do?

Look, as they could not get a result from the Gezi protests, they have launched a second attack with December 17-25 operations. Our people had problems in understanding this. A structure, a community which was established in order to raise and train people, which was supported by everyone; was revealed as a structure controlled by external forces and in a form to harm the internal security via establishing its dominance in 25-30 years. December 17-25 operation was the same operation as in Egypt. Just like Mursi, elected by people and then thrown into prison by a military coup; they have planned to do it to our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, put him in an iron cage and oppress the people. The clear stance of our President and the insight of our people have caused these plots to fail.

-Will Turkey regain the stability and trust on November 1?

Look, the evil alliances searching the 1990s in Turkey have launched the operations of PKK from Kandil and tried to ignite a chaos in the country. Now, our people are repeating June 7 elections. This honorable people will teach the best lesson on November 1. Because November 1 has no repetition. Therefore, the next elections are of crucial importance for our country. Our people will vote on November 1 to keep the benefits they has in the last 13 years. We do not have any luxury to lose peace, trust, peace and stability in this country. November 1 is not an election to make the JDP government or someone minister or deputy. It is the Election Day to clean the dark clouds over a country. I believe that our people had a clear account of what happened since June 7.

-Why is JDP always targeted by the opposition parties?

JDP is the hope of this land. You will get the same answer from anyone. Kurds, Turks, Shiites and Sunnis know this very well and they believe in this. Those forces that try to finish JDP are the evil forces that want to turn this region into a warzone. JDP is not only a political party but also a stance against those.

-President Erdogan said that “mothers should not cry anymore”. But they started to cry again. What should mothers do now?

I know very well the heart of a mother as a mother myself. Our President means all the mothers while saying that. Because whenever a mother cries, all other mothers cry with her. That is why “the heaven is under the feet of mothers”. Those who make mothers cry will never stop. Their pain in the heart is really big. Whether the crying mother is Turkish or Kurdish, everyone hurts in this country. I have witnessed so many mothers crying with Kurdish moms’ cries even though they do not speak a word in Kurdish. Peace begins at heart. Mothers in this country want peace, not war. They have never wanted war, blood and tears. So I believe that mothers will solve this problem in November 1 elections.

-How was the locomotive of the region, Gaziantep affected from this instability after June 7?

Gaziantep is an industrial city and it always takes migration from Southeast. It is the city where migration is transformed into wealth. Migration has turned into wealth, peace, development and brotherhood in Gaziantep. Anyone who comes here contributes to themselves and to the city. They develop and they help to develop. They tried to stop this on June 7. People of Gaziantep are aware of this game and they will stop it on November 1.

-What do you think the real aim of the ideology that blames Erdogan with the Syrian war which started with Arab Spring? Whom do they serve?

First of all, I believe that those who say that already know they serve to other powers and also know the content of this. Because we have given a very serious fight to stop the events in Syria. I have witnessed this in the council of ministers and party organization, but we could not achieve that. Because this is a war between the people and the ruler. When the demands of people were not met with the government, a serious chaos has started and spring turned into winter. Gaziantep is a city where people who run away from Assad’s death machines and take refuge.

-You were severely criticized by the opposition because of your attitude towards the Syrians. How should this be considered?

There is a fire in our neighbor with which we have a border of 932 kilometers. This directly affects us. We realized this and did our best to prevent. After the events started; we had to host our brothers, relatives and neighbors. Our President, when he was the Prime Minister said: “we are a great country and we cannot ignore the problems our brothers face”. We are the members of a belief where immigrants are very important. 5 years is a very long period. But this will record the hospitality of our city. Our city has embraced more than three times of refugees accepted by all European cities. Turkey has embraced more than 2 million people and the foreign countries try to create a negative perception about this. We are living in an unjust world. When the war ends in Syria, all these children Turkey embraced will grow up and contribute to the development of Turkey in the future. We will see this, or our children will witness this. History will write this great humanitarian situation.
