-What is the transformation in the TV series between 1990-2015?

TV series have increased with the appearance of multiple channels in 1990s, instead of the single channel TRT period. So, the market for TV series was established. TV series back in that time were screened at Kanal 6, Star TV and Show TV and a great contribution was made to the current TV series sector in Turkey. TV series have increased their qualities since then. Let’s assume that there are approximately 15 actors/actresses at the forefront of a TV series today; this number reaches to 70 with all the staff. This is a serious number. The quality of TV series has increased throughout the years. In the beginning, there was only one TV series broadcasted after the news; and today this number has reached to two. The faces of actors/actresses have changed. This was the process. In the past, we used to watch family series for every age. Now this has changed. There is a TV series for each generation today. There was a shift from family series such as Perihan Abla, Vatandas Ahmet in which I have played as well and Super Baba to different issues such as city life and estates.

-Subjects covered in TV series are very similar? Is this on purpose or is it really hard to find original subjects?

Scenarios are very similar with each other recently. This is correct. Maybe the scriptwriters are having problems to find new stories and to enhance their issues. Most of the stories are clichés. Scenarios have the rule of two dogs and a bone. Either two women love a man, or two men love a woman and they cannot share. So, the stories are very similar…And, also, they think that if something is liked; then more of the same story is produced. The stories in estates have increased after Asmali Konak became very popular.

WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS THE PROCESSING OF THE IDEA

Important thing in a TV series is the way the idea is expressed. I am currently acting in a TV series called Kirgin Cicekler at ATV. Story of four girls living in a dormitory is being told. Similar stories were written before for sure. But this one explains it in a different way, and many people have liked it. So the way of explaining is very important. The language used in the series is very important. Acting performances are very important.

SECTOR WAS NOT INSTITUTIONALIZED

-Turkish series are being translated to many languages and watched in many countries. Why did the Turkish series and filming sector turn into an industry a Hollywood?

In USA, government invests in the filming sector. Unfortunately, there is no sectoral status in Turkey. Law maker has to announce this as a sector. The personal rights of the actors/actresses and the technical personnel need to be provided. Currently, producer prepares the project and sells it to the channel. Producer receives the money from the TV channel and directs the TV series. If he/she earns money from this, then the second project is made. This is not an industry, but becoming a holding in itself.
